Water Management

Water is becoming the world’s most precious commodity and its efficiency is essential for the mining industry – that’s why we work together with our customers to manage water resources on mine site.

Once considered a plentiful, easily available and manageable resource, water has now emerged as one of the most important environmental concerns for mankind and for the mining industry in particular.  In many countries, mining activity takes place in arid and semi-arid regions where water is a limiting factor for the development and survival of mining operations.

WaterMinerTM , an on-line information system, allows mine managers to make strategic decisions regarding water management on their sites.  These tools have shown significant benefit especially in managing mine site water usage, sources, destinations and storage and provide the industry with better understanding and improvement of site water management.  The tools also assist mine sites to comply with government regulatory requirements that are becoming more and more stringent.

JKTech specialists have been working closely with the Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry (CWiMI) to gain the expertise required to provide this service to the mining industry and will continue to liaise with CWiMI researchers to ensure the latest research developments are incorporated in the water management consulting projects. The WaterMinerTM information system, combined with JKTech expertise, provides a cost effective means of benchmarking water performance against industry best practice, generating consistent, defensible sustainability reports and assessing threats and opportunities impacting on water security on mine sites and within companies.
