The JK Centre is located on the site of the University of Queensland Experimental Mine in the Brisbane suburb of Indooroopilly, seven kilometres from the main University of Queensland Campus .

Over the years the Centre has developed an extensive range of facilities which are used for JKMRC research projects and for JKTech commercial testing projects.

Pilot Plant
The JK pilot plant is a world-class mineral processing testwork facility. A large range of standard and custom-built equipment means that many different research and commercial testing projects can be undertaken simultaneously. The pilot plant has a full-time staff of qualified technicians which can be supplemented when necessary by postgraduate students working on a casual basis.

MLA Laboratory
As well as supplying Mineral Liberation Analysis systems, JKTech operates a number of Scanning Electron Microscopes to service the needs of a rapidly growing client base as well as the research activities of the JKMRC.

Workshop (Equipment Fabrication)
The equipment fabrication workshop is a critical adjunct to the JK pilot plant, staffed by full-time qualified tradesmen. This facility ensures that all pilot plant equipment is properly maintained, and that new test rigs can be designed and built to the exacting standards required by our research and consulting personnel.

Work regularly undertaken by the workshop includes the manufacture of JK drop weight testers, flotation testing equipment, batch flotation cells and sample holders for the Mineral Liberation Analyser.

Instrument Laboratory
Specialist measuring equipment for research and consulting work can be built on site at the JKTech instrument laboratory. Laboratory personnel have backgrounds in mechanical and electronic fabrication techniques.

Library
The JK Centre has its own library at the Indooroopilly site, with access to the full range of UQ library services and staffed by a qualified librarian. This library houses an impressive array of mineral processing books and journals and keeps copies of all research theses published by JKMRC postgraduate students.

Classroom and Seminar Facilities
The JK Centre has a fully serviced lecture theatre with seating for 100 people, as well as a more informal classroom that can comfortably fit 20. Two Board rooms are also available. These facilities are regularly used for seminars, special presentations, client meetings, training and user group meetings.

Experimental Mine
The University Experimental Mine is unique to mining schools in Australia . In 1951, a former silver and lead mine situated at Finney's Hill in the Brisbane suburb of Indooroopilly was acquired by the University of Queensland 's School of Mining Engineering . The facility is maintained as a registered mine and is regularly used for student practical work in ventilation, earth sciences, surveying, production engineering and safety.
