Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to review coal flotation fundamentals, to discuss  interrelated engineering aspects and to show how better understanding of the fundamentals can be utilized to improve industrial results.

Course Outline
The topics covered will include:

  • Introduction to coal preparation and circuits
  • Coal characteristics related to coal preparation 
  • Testing including floatability curves
  • Coal surface properties
  • Reagents in coal flotation 
  • Flotation technology 
  • Flotation machines  
  • Particle size enlargement 
  • Fine coal utilisation

Course Attendees
The course is designed for engineers working in coal preparation. It is intended to provide the practicing coal preparation engineer with a knowledge of the current technology and an understanding of the fundamentals on which coal flotation is based.

Course Timing and Location
This course is scheduled for 9th - 10th August, 2007. 

It will be held at the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre in Brisbane, Australia.

Course Presenters

Professor Janusz Laskowski

 

Professor Laskowski obtained all his degrees from the Silesian University of Technology in Poland and spent time at many universities including Lomonosov University in Moscow, the Mining Institute of USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow (as a post graduate student), Department of Mineral Technology at the Imperial College in London (as a post-doc fellow), University of Chile in Santiago and University of Berkeley (as visiting professor); since 1982 until 2001 was professor of mineral processing at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

He chaired the 13th International Mineral Processing Congress in 1979, was Editor-in Chief of Coal Preparation international journal from 1984 until 2004, and has published over 230 papers in refereed journals and conference proceeding, as well as several books (including his monograph on Coal Flotation and Fine Coal Utilization, Elevier, 2001).
