JKTech and its partners have strived to develop a methodology so that optimisation of flotation conditions can be carried out without the risk of extensive plant trials, which even if carried out carefully are often hard to interpret due to varying feed properties and other poorly controlled inputs.

The JKTech flotation consulting team comprises highly skilled specialists with expertise in:

  • Flotation process benchmarking
  • Flotation process training
  • Flotation modelling and simulation
  • Design and optimisation of flotation circuits

The flotation process, invented over 100 years ago in Australia, is the major separation step in most mineral processing and coal preparation operations throughout the world.  Although widely used, the technology of flotation is difficult and many mining operations operate below the optimum economic efficiency.

JKTech has developed a flotation process evaluation and optimisation methodology to address this probem; which involves a sophisticated software package, JKSimFloat and new specialist equipment.

This flotation optimisation methodology is a knowledge-based innovation making best use of mathematical models developed at the JKMRC, University of Cape Town and McGill University together with flotation measurement techniques and process expertise.
