David Collins studied at the James Cook University and went on to acquire a Masters in Mineral Processing from the University of Queensland.

He worked at the Red Dome Gold Mine in Queensland for eleven years as an analyst and supervisor and also as Quality Assurance and Metallurgical Officer and gained an industry Certificate in Mining and Metallurgy - Laboratory Stream.

David also worked as a specialist technician at BHP-Billiton’s Olympic Dam mine before joining Western Metals Mt Gordon Operations where he worked as Quality Management Coordinator.

David joined the JKMRC as a Senior Laboratory Technician in May 2002 and became the Pilot Plant Supervisor in 2004. In 2006 and 2007, David validated the JK Floatability Index as part of his Masters in Mineral Processing after which he joined JKTech as a Flotation Specialist.
